HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. [by TELKGH APH. —-rHESS ASSOCIATION. J Wellington, Tuesday. Following is the High Commissioner's cable, dated London, January 3rd, quotations, unless otherwise specified ,being average market prices on spot: — Mutton.—The market is firm owing to reduced supplies. Quotations 2re nominal. No change in prices.

Lamb. —Demand continues active. Prices have advanced since telegraphing on account of difficulty in obtaining supplies Canterbury twos 6§d, heavy weights s|d. Beef.—The market iB steady. New Zealand hinds 4£d, chilled hinds 4|d, fores 3 3-16 d.

Butter. —The market is quiet at a decline. For some time past a feature of the trade has heen the scarcity of beat quality butters, but of late the high price has checked genuine demand. Danish 130s to 1335, New Zealand 118s to 1225, Australian 110s to 116s, Argentine 110s to 114s, Siberian 108s to 114s.

Cheese. —The market is quiet, but firm and steady, and higher prices are anticipated. Canadian white 67s to 68s per cwt., coloured 68s to 695; Australian 62s to 665; New Zealand white 65s to 665. coloured 66s to 675. Prices nominal for New Zealand; no change in prices for English cheddar. The estimated Canadian cheese stocks at London, Liverpool and Bristol on January 2nd were 223,000 cases, against 309,000 cases at the same time last year. New Zealand and Australian stocks at London and Bristol were 7000 cases, against 17,500 at the same time last year.

Hemp.—The market is quiet but rather steadier, although business is dull. New Zealand good fair, per ton £25 10s, fair £23 10s; Manila, fair current, on spot £27, forward shipment about same.

Hops.—Market nrospect3 "are favourable, and holders are firm. Erglish 180s per cwt., Californian 150s. Wool.—Market firmer and there is more demand.
