ANGLING NOTES.
RESOURCES OF THE DISTRICT.
The attractions of the district in the matter of trout fishing are beginning to get known and a fair number of visitors have been threshing the local streams dur.ng the holidays. The Mangaokewa, which is protected for fly fishing, has afforded good sport for local anglers. Messrs Cochrane, Morgan, Dransfield and others have secured some really good fish, despite the fact that practically flood conditions prevailed until Christmas. The Waipa at Otewa is being well patronised this season and all the visitors agree that the stream i 3 an ideal one for sport. The Mangaotaki is being fished by different parties, but it is stated the depredations of poachers have had a very harmful effect on the stream. The Manganu, both above and below the underground passage through which it passes, is teeming with small fish, and it is intended to net the stream and use the fish for stocking some of the other rivers. At present there are so many fish in the stream that it is impossible for them to thrive, and rarely is a trout of a decent size to be obtained, while the small ones are to be seen in shoels.
