NO SETTLEMENT YET.

WORK BEING RESUMED. Auckland, Friday. Practically thiee weeks have elapsed since the Auckland waterside workers went on strike. The strike leaders declare, that thay are as convinced to-day a" they were in the beginning that the nresent industrial conflict is going to reault in a win for the unions. On the other hand, those anxious for peace are more hopeful today of the trouble coming to an end than has been the case since the strike commenced. This opinion is based on the fact that over 400 men are now working on the waterfront; numerous) vessels have bpen loaded, and have sailed; 100 carts are conveying cargo to and from the wharves; and workers belonging 'to various unions have resumed work. Amongst those who have gone back to work arp 40 carpentres on the Exhibition buildings, 30 on Wondreland Park, 400 out of 500 general labourers in the employ of the City Coucnil, a dozen or more of the permanent staff of the Mount Eden Borough Council, a handful of drivers, and a fair number of builders' employees in the suburbs. The s f rike leaders at the Trades Hall decline, however, to admit that there is the slightest sign of weakening. They assert that the strikers are determined to see the strike through, and that thß seamen are unanimous in their decision to fight with them. They also speak confidently in the belief that the general strike will extend throughout tha Dominion A branch of the new Arbitration union has been formed amongst tb.9 Waterside workers at Onehunga, and work has now been resumed on the Onehunga wharves. It is stated also that there is a strong feeling in favour of new unions being established in connection with other trades involved in the present strike, and not registereu under the Arbitration Act.
