FAT STOCK SALES. Mr Alfred Buckland and Sons report:— At our weekly Westfield fat stock market on Wedneday, June 11th, our entry of beef numbered 278 head, the quality being first-class. Competition was extra keen and value ad vanced from £1 10s to £2 per head. Choice ox sold to £1 6s, prime £1 12s to £1 15s; cows and heifers, £1 5s to £1 13s; steers ranged in price from £7 15s to £ll 17s 6d; cows and heifers, £4 10s to £ll 17s 6d. A draft of 278 prime heavy bullocks averaged £ls 5s lOd; another draft of 23 averageed £l4 Is 6d. A truck from Mr W. A. Lovell, of Taupiri, averaged £ls 14s 3d, and several other consignments averaged between £l2 Is and £l4. The 61 fat and young calves sold at late high rates. Choice heavy suckers to £4 16s, medium suckers £2 10s to £3 10s, light £1 13s to £2 15s, small and fresh dropped 3s to £1 lus.. There was a large entry of mutton, the bulk being heavy prime \vethers. There was a strong demand, competition being very spirted, with a sharp rise in values. Extra heavy prime wethers £1 9s 6d to £1 13s-; heavy prime £1 6s 6d to £1 9s, medium to heavy £1 2s 6d to £1 6s, light an unfinished 17s to £1 12s 2d, and a line of 347 wethers averaged £3 6s 7d. Extra hesvy prime ewes £1 5s 6to£l 9s 6d (a pen of 16 extra special ewes from Mr J. Connor, Opotiki, brought £1 14s); good ewes 19s to £1 4s, others 13s to 18s; poor stores 8s to 11—2294 sold. Few lambs offered, prime sorts selling at from 18s to£l Is 6d for extra good (Mr W. H. James, of Pirongia, topping the market with 44 lambs at £1 Is each) good 14s 6d to 17s, others 21s to 14s; stores, 9s to lis 6d—165 sold. Pigs came forward in more than average numbers. Bidding was brisk, and late high rates were improved un. No choppers penned. Heavy baconers £3 13s to £4 7s, lighter £3 3s to £3 12s; large porkers £2 10j to £3 a t : jmiJler .-.1 17s to £2 10b; light £1 8s to £1 15s; small stores, 12s 6d to 18s. No weaners or suckers yarded.—l 97 sold.
