HONIKIWI.

- —•• Own Correspondent. Mr Campbell and his party, who have been making a trial survey for a possible route for the Kawhia railway, have now gone on to Whangarei, aft6r sperding a couple of weeks in this district, during which time an exhaustive survey of the district was made Thanks to the enterprise of one of our settlers this district has had the honour of gaining at the Waikato Show first prize for soft turnips, and second prize for swedes. This speaks well for the future prosperity of Otorohanga and the surrounding country. Our congratulations are extended to Mr Budden on hs success. A much-needed improvement has been carried out on the Tapuae road in the form of widening it and cleaning out water tables and taking off dangerous corners. It is to be regretted that such contracts could not be performed in the spring or early summer, thereby rendering the work more efficient, and giving the new surface time to get set before winter commences. We hear that a meeting of settlers has been convened by Mr Boddie, chairman of directors of the Te Kuiti Butter Factory, for Saturday next, the 21st inst., at 11 a.m., in the school, to speak on dairy matters. It is hoped that as many as possible will attend.
