RECORD BUTTER SEASON.
OVER 330,000 BOXES. • The present butter season, which practically concludes with the shipment to be taken by the steamer Niagara to-day, has been a record one, the increase, as compared with the previous year, 1911-12, being about 15 per cent. Including the 465 boxes to be shipped by the Niagara, the total for the season will be 331,071 boxes, as compared with 287,906 boxes in the previous year. The season, taken as a whole, has been conducive to a large output, but the dry weather experienced during the past two or three months interfered with the supplies considerably. To some extent the yearly increases noticeable have been due to the increased number of people following the dairy industry as the result of the opening up of lands in the province. Land in the North Auckland district formerly considered unsuitable for the industry has been found most useful. Northern dairy farmers contribute extensively to the annual export. The following comparative returns give details of the number of boxes shipped outwards during the last two seasons:—To London 255,679 boxes in 1912-13, and 246,801 in 1911-12; to West of England ports 4490—10,640; to the Islands, 3055-2928; to South Africa, 1150 66> 697 287,906.
