TE KUITI DEBATING SOCIETY.

The opening debate for the scaßon under tho auspices of the To Kuiti Debating Society was held in tho Municipal Hall last night. There wa? a fair attendance of members notwithstanding the unfavourable weather. The Speaker, Major Lusk, occupied the chair, and keen interest, was token in the proceedings by those present. Tho evening was devoted to impromptu debates and tho various speakers handled the subject which was assigned to them in a highly creditable manner.

During the evening tho Governor'! Speech for the opening of Parliament was circulated in order to provide an opportunity for memberß to prepare criticism on the speech when it is brought before tho House. The tint sitting of Parliament in to tako place on Thursday evening next, when the Government under Mr Howarth will occupy the Ministerial benches. The Labour party, under Mr J. B. Young, will constitute a formidable opposition, bu', it is understood the Conservatives have decided not to appoint a leader for the present.
