ST. LUKE'S CHURCH BAZAAR.

| The bazaar promoted by the Ladies' ! Guild uf St. Luke's, Te Kuiti, was | continued on Wednesday last. The stalls, which had been replenished with many fresh things, louked very pretty and drew ready purchasers during he afternoon and evening, and the various competitions were well patronised. There was a large attendance during the evening when the contests for the best recitation and the best impromptu speech took place. Great interest wa3 taken in these and the various competitors were attentively followed and criticised. The following competed, the first named i being the winner in each case: —Re- [ citation: Mrs Cheal Mrs Darbyshire, I Miss Carr, Mr Wilson. Recitation, jhumurous: Mrs Bennett. Miss Law, IMr Gutterson. Trie ladies, with the ! approval of the judge, decided to give lanother prize for recitations which j has been awarded to Mrs Darbyshire. | The impromptu speeches caused great i amusement and this competition was i Wun by Mr Short, who drew the subject "Babies." The other competi- | tors were Mr Martin, "Why am I not j married?" Mr Wilson, "Should i bachelors be taxed?" Mr Howarth, "Wh" do men go bald?" The hattrimming for men caused roars of laughter,, and was won by Mr Dransfield and Mr C. Matthew declared equal by judge and votes of audience. Ladies' nail-driving competiions, Mrs Nicholls; boys' nail-driving competition, Master Nicholls; cake-guessing, Miss Meiling (9!bs 15 ozs, exact weight) ; name of doll, Mr C. Matthew. Punch and Jud.y as usual was j an unfailing source of fun and merri- I ment for both old and young, the little ones' faces being quite a study when watching the antics of Mr Punch. Thanks are given to all those who so kindly gave help at putting up the stalls or donations, especially Messrs J. Smith, Lee, Poutawera, Cotton, Solomon, Warmington, Thompson and Green and Colebrook.
