An American firm manufactures sacred scarabs for th2 Egyptian tourist trade. The iittle charms are carved and chipped by machinery, coloured to simulate age, and shipped in casks to Moslem dealers at Cairo. Arabian guides are the chief buyers many of them being adepts at "saltr ing" the sands at the base of the Pyramids or about the sacred temples, where they artfully "discover" these scarabs before the very eyes of the toruists, and sell them for half a sovereign apiece—articles manufactured at a cost of less than one penny.—"Sunday Magazine,"
