TE KUITI BOWLING AND CROQUET CLUB.
"The Kitty." Snadden is unable to take part in the competitions and King takes his place in the Singles and Pairs. Visitors to the local green during the past week included Mr Saxon, of the Mount Eden Club and Mr Jones, president o£ the Wanganui Club. Both gentlemen, who are keen bowling enthusiasts, spoke in high terms of the green. Of the colts who are shownig much promise just now are Matthew, Smith and Broadfoot. They should each make first-class players as their deliveries are almost perfect. A word of advice to young players in full-rink matches. There are two J men only in each team entitled to direct the play: the skip and the third j man. \ There was a good number of bowll ing and croquet enthusiasts on the | greens on Thursday afternoon, and j some very enjoyable games were i played. As practically the whole of | the bowlers are engaged in the competitions it will be necessary for the | match committee to consider the j advisability of abolishing, for the ! present at any rate, the ordinary ; draw on club afternoons, and so j allow of the match games being I played off. The match committee in the croquet side hope to be able to announce "a competition to commence during the coming week. However, before looking for match play I think that the newer lady members should endeavour to improve their standard of play so that when the competitions do start, they will have some chance of holding their own with the more experienced players. "The Kitty" will keep a very watchful eye over the ladies and intends to report their doings fully. On Thursday afternoon Mhs Day proved too good for the "Doctor" over a short game, which must be accounted a very good performance indeed, as her opponent is at all times a very tough proposition. .COMPETITION GAMES. The fir=it game in the Singles match was played between Porter and Rosenberg, and resulted in a victory for the former by 32 to 9. Stevens v. Sharpies.—This was expected to provide a very keen struggle, but Stevens was right on his game and ran out a winner by 19 to 10. Lissaman senr. and Albrechtsen v. Lissaman junr. and Major Lusk.—On paper this looked a very one-sided game, but Lissaman junr., put up such a solid fight that the "Dad" was only able to steal home by a point—lß to 17. | In a club game, Matthew and Co. were too strong for Smith and his four, and ran out easy winners. Matthew is playing a very solid game j just now, and his opponents in the j Singles will need all their armour I to resist his attack. \
