PIOPIO SCHOOL.

TO It'.e. KWTOR. Sir, —I sec by jour Wuc of the 15th inst. a correspondent signing himself "Ad Valorem," trying to cause strife over the Picpio School. If be ha* the interest of the district at heart as be pretends, wby does he not show himself, and not hide behind a stump—l mean limestone and scrub. Now, sir, if "Ad Valorem " is a man, or if he has got any manliness in him, let bim ccme out of his hiding place, and ask bis questions straight out, and sign bis name to them. I will then answer his questions, and show him that he is in tbe minority.and not the majority, and perhaps tell him more than he will like to hear. —I am, etc., GEO. J. BEVEGE. Commissioner, Piopio School.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir. —Re School matters at Piopio, "Ad Valorem" is like the Maori hen; he is always finding out something, and. should it not be securely chained, will get away with it too, but when disturbed he pushes his head into the grass or in other words hides behind a Non de Plume, and thinks he cannot i he seen, so in future he should sign himself "the Weka*\ Now where has this farmer Giles been lately? Has he. like Rip Van Winkte been asleep for a thousand years, and when awakened is soprised to find the world has been able to go on without him. Some twelve months ago. the Settlers of Piopio District requisitioned the Eurlu- ' cation Department for a school and it was granted, provided wc found a building, '.he Department undertaking to send the teacher and furniture. The Maoris very kindly offered us the Hall for twelve months, which time is up on February Ist, 1910. In the meantime we have to get a new school built. Now the person who undertook j to push things along was either too j slow to catch worms, or did not know I enough to get in out of the rain, for with two months to spare, he did not j get an application in for a School Committee election. In May, Mr Bevege, being in Auckland, I asked him to interview'the Secretary of tbe Education Board. Which he did. and found that nothing was being done, so he, Mr Bevege, has been nominated to act as Commissioner for the ensuing year, and push things along. He is a very able and competent Commissioner, and has not been idle in school matters. He has got a school site granted at Piopio, near tlw junction of the Mairoa and Aria roads, where at present there is an up-to-date general store, with post office, and with the proposed saleyards and dairy factory at that junction, it must be the assured centre for this district. Now, would the Weka or others of that torn* and titristricken. and rabbit-infested end of the district please inform me, either j through the medium of this paper or otherwise, why they, without consult- j tne the Commissioner, tried to get a i school site at the fourteen mite peg. Was it not. as I see through my telescope, that they, with this interference, are trying to mess matters up. so as to waste valuable time, so at the last minute when the term is up for our present building, the school buildings will have to go on the school reserve at the thirteen mile peg. There it may improve the value of their property, but would be of no use to us, who are trying to make a central village; now. as in whist, the suits Bre played out, and I have led the ace of Trumps. You to play.—l am, etc., H. G. ANDREWS, Piopio.
