At a meeting of the Settlers' Picnic Committee held at Mr J. Johnson's house on Saturday November 7th, it was reported that considerable support has been promised from various tradespeople in Te Kuiti. A ladies committee was appointed to receive donations for refreshments, and they will have charge of the marquee on the day of the picnic. An innovation this year is the appointment of a ground committee, controlling sports, etc. The annual social will be held on New Year's eve, and is being looked forward to with considerable interest. Mr G. Elliott will be pleased to receive contributions to the prize list, and varoius events have already been named after the prize donors. Dissatisfaction is felt generally at the contractors' delay in not pushing on with the metaliing of the road between 14 and 16 mile pegs, as any further delay tends to interfere with prospects of good roads for next year.
