OPARURE.
Quite the most noteworthy of the many pleasant evenings spent in Oparure during this Spring, was the dance held in the hall last Saturday evening. - The promoters were Mrs Whare Hotu, Mrs Hare Hotu, Mrs HuiaTahi and Miss Mahere Hori. It would be difficult to say too much in praise of these ladies as hostesses, and their resourcefulness must have been taxed to the utmost to provide for so many from distant places, visitors from Auckland, Otorohanga, Te ICuiti, Mokau, and Pio Pio being present. In all about two. hundred and fifty sat down to the ample supper, which was laid out in truly elegant style. The graceful decorations of the larger Kauta (Maori cooking kitchen), which had been prepared as a supper room, and also the artistic arrangement of flowers in vases on the table itself, were much admired. The scheme of adornment carried ont in the ball-room was a delightful blending of waewae-koukou and the soft, green silky growth of the clematis, which at this time of year rivals even the blossom itself, as it does not droop, and give the room a jaded appearance. In this department the ladies were ably assisted by Messrs. McLeod, O'Neil, and other gentlemen. Mr Tete Atutahi supplied the music, and with a few extras by Mr Hira Poutawera, (M.C.), kept the dancing going with a merry goodwill till midnight. The promoters have every reason to be proud of the very successful manner in which all the arrangements for a pleasurable evening were carried out.
