On Saturday m.orning next, at 10 o’clock, Messrs Pyne, Gould, Guinness will hold a sale of furniture on account of Mr M. G. Gibson, at Main South Road, Kaikoura.

His Majesty the King paid a visit to Naples and inspected the troops in the battle area. Air Winston Churchill has been visiting the Normandy battle area.

A dance will be held at the P.W.D. Social Hall, Beach Road, to-night, and those attending can rest assured of an enjoyable evening. The funds are in aid of the parcels fund for mf?n of the P.W.D. serving overseas. At the Hapuku Hall on Saturday night the Mangamaunu Tribal Committee will conduct a dance in connection with the Maori war effort. There will be good music supplied and an excellent supper.

The United States Office of War Information has received a report from the Swiss newspaper Berner Tagwacht that the collaborator Berger announced by Berlin as having died in the attempted assassination was Hitler’s double. The newspaper said that Ber ger, who confusingly resembled the Fuehrer, was appointed his colloborator by the Secret Service.

The annual meeting of the Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural ‘Clubs is to take place at the District High School to-night at 7.30, when it is hoped there will be a large attendance, and thus give encouragement to the boys and girls. Those who have attended the the produce shows and cattle parades realise what the members of the clubs are capable of and their splendid work should be fostered to the utmost extent.
