MEAT PRODUCTION.

FIVE MONTHS’ KILLINGS. Th official figures of killings for the present season at the Dominion’s freezing works from October 1 to February 28, as issued by the New Zealand Meat Producer’ Board, show that lamb killings to that date total 6,896,132 carcases, this being an increase of 134,315 carcases over the killings to March 1 last season. Wether mutton killings are 407,171 carcases, and ewe muton killings 819,184 carcases, compared with 286,549 and 886,216 carcases, respectively, last season. Details of the lamb and mutton killings in the North and South Islands, with figures for the previous year in parentheses, are as follows:

North Island: Lamb carcases, 4,126,861 (4,003,374); wether mutton carcases, 381,717 (259,681); ewe mutton carcases, 578,188 (690,278*. South Island: Lamb carcases, 2,769,271 (2,758,443); wether mutton carcases 25,454 (26,868); ewe mutton carcases, 240,996 (195,938). Frozen beef production is now 128,671 quarters, compared with 197,457 quarters last season. Porker killings total 78,939 carcases, an increase 0f«44,448, whilst baconers total 177,311 carcases, a decrease of 46,720.
