BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY

Members of committees gathered after the monthly meeting' of the Kaikoura Beautify ig and Improvement Soviet v, the Queens being present with the exception of the ATaori Queen. The girls’ photoginphs were taken and will bo screened at the theatre, accompanied by reports of their progress. The results of the competitions are to be communicated to the president or secretary not later than 9 o’clock on Saturday morning so that flags may bo placed in position at the West anil East End respectively. It was decided to hold a Afock Court in the West End on 23rd April, particulars of which will be published later. The following will assist those interested in the results of the contest: Candidates: ATiss Nellie Pluck, Scarlet; Aliss Ruth Dalzell, Green; Miss Helen Eaton, Blue; Aliss Elizabeth King, Mauve. The publicans have entered into this contest with great enthusiasm, each having drawn a candidate and they arc holding a copper trail for their young ladies. The funds resulting from the copper Dail are shown against each hotel on the results list, the amount is included in the total votes gained by the candidates. Adelphi (Mauve), 39yds 2ft, £4 19/6; Club (Green), 20yds Ift. £2 11/-; Commercial (Blue). 22yds Ift, £2 !(»/•; Pier (Scarlet), 36.yds Ift 3in, £4 11/3. Results to date: —Green 653. Scarlet 645, Mauve 398, Blue 224. The flags showing the positions of the r'.indidatcs are being flown on the flag-pole at Curran’s Garage, West End, and on the Club Hotel. East End. The flags will be altered as funds are handed in each Ssiturday morning, the final alteration being at midday. The-number of votes to each candidate will be screened during interval at the Alayfair Theatre.
