At a meeting of the Kaikoura Agricultural and Pastoral Association, held on Saturday, a discussion took place concerning the following paragraph which appeared in a report in The Press on June 20:— “For many this last mar has been the best since 1914 (said Air L. R. C. Alacfarlane, Culverden, in his address as retiring president, at the annual meeting of the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand). Improvement had been seen in the quantity and the quality of production, and in high working profits, which had enable 1 most of the losses of the past fou- years to be paid off. ’ ’ After a general discussion the following resolution was passe l by the Kai koura Association:—“Tier this association feels that the above mentioned statement gives an entirely erroneous impression of the farming industry of to-day, and coming as it do from the President of the Royal Agricultural Society, is ;ill the more seriou« because of its misleading aspect. As far as grain growing is concerned, this association is not in the position to make any statement, as this type of farming is not practised to any extent in this district. Concerning sheepfarming, figures available from both back and front, country runs show that the above statement is grossly exaggerated. Concerning dairy farming the statement is patently absurd.”
