SOUTH ISLAND RAILWAY SYSTEM
“Everyone who looks at the railway construction system in the South Island will see the necessity of closing up the gaps,” stated the Prime Minister at the end of the Public Works debate in the House on Monday night. “The Midland and Buller lines must first be connected with the main line system.” • Mr W. J. Girling (Wairau): “The South Main Trunk?” The Prime Minister: “I am not talking about the South Island Main Trunk Line.” Mr Girling: “I know you are not.” (Laughter). The Right Hon. Mr Coates: u We will consider that next.”
