TENNIS.
SUBURBAN CLUB. On Saturday, in glorious sunshine, Mr Beaton, the President, formally opened the court for the season. He congratulated the Club on the many improvements, and advised the present energetic committee to keep going at their initial pace. Mr Walshe, who also spoke, enjoined on the older players to assist and encourage the younger ones. There was no competition, as those present intimated they would .not have time to finish, so, with few exceptions, combined doubles were played. Mr Raymond Gibson’s presence on the court was much appreciated. His ‘‘cannon-ball” service and qJLek reaction to the smallest opening pleased opponents as well as onlookers. Afternoon tea was provided by the lady members and greatly appreciated. Miss E. Wareham and Mr E. B. Walshe are the present holders of the buttons. They are now challenged by two worthy opponents, Miss Alma Ross > and Mr Signal. The great handicap at Suburban is a dearth of men players, but time, no - doubt, will right this deficiency.
