AROUND MERRY-GO-ROUND !

An up-to-date merry-go-round has ; been doing great business in Kaikoura at Ally Slopcr’s Corner, and children, and adults, also, have flocked to have a whirl or watch others being whirled! All the famous horses of New Zealand and Aussie are ready for mounting, and it is obvious that the jockeys play an important part in the riding, for the steeds ean be made to perform

all sorts of stunts. * Miss New Zealand was there, and thoroughly enjoyed the whirling. Many c ompliments were paid her. She replied: “What the debil has it got to do with anybody how I enjoy myself!” Her > face beamed with smiles from the en- ; joyment of a whirl round. “Dick,” of blue shark fame, was there, but he cut a sorry figure. It was ; not mal de mer, hut something upset , him, for he looked very blue, and sudi . <lenly disappeared to a Quiet corner.

Another youth from Broadway had a good time, but “frowed up!” He continued “frowing up” and those in proximity to the merry-go-round continued to swear, as did some of the rider’s nearby jockeys. Some good suits and dresses had to receive attention. Se did the youth! A well-known figure, who knows a horse from to stern, and all its innards,'mounted one of the steeds—Stargazer. he animal was too fractious for him, and he was thrown and saw stars.

Although 14st in weight he was thrown a distance of 20ft. It is not always safe to stick to the rocking horse! To watch the set expression of maidens and men is worth while, too. The demure maiden with short skirts has a busy time adjusting her raiment. While she re-arranges one side to a nicety, behold the jazz garters and other dainty frills come to view. Oh! What fun we have had to night! A County Councillor, w’cll known by his longitudinal proportions, watched the proceedings with delight. He had a difficult proposition to prevent himself having a whirl. He kept a close eye on Limerick! The kiddies have had a lively time, .so what matters?
