The likelihood of floods during ttfie coming monsoon owing to changed land levels due to the earthquake is a new | menace to the homeless thousands in the stricken areas of Bihar. Large rivers have changed their course and it is expected that vast areas, including many towns and villages hitherto free from flooding, will he completely submerged. Meanwhile, the Government is building hundreds of boats to maintain touch wit hthe areas in Tirhut district rains begin in July. South India, last night resulted in the death of an Indian Magistrate and serious injuries to sn Indian police inspector. The trouble arose over the Magistrate’s ban on self-torture by devotees of Mariammona, the Hindu Goddess of Smallpox, which was a feature of the yearly ceremonies. Arme<J police were rushed to the scene from the neighbouring districts. The inhabitants have evacuated the village.
