SOLO FINALS COMPLETED G. CHRISTIE WINS B FLAT CORNET JUDGE COMPLIMENTS PLAY IN THIS EVENT (United Press Assn.) DUNEDIN, Last Night. The Anal of the aolo events in the New Zealand Band Contest was Judged today, the B gat comet (own choice) being won by G. Christie, who won the championship on Wednesday. Bass and side drum solos were also heard. Results:— Bass drum solo (sight test). —W. Woodley (Mataura Town Band) 40pts 1; H. J. Hall (Wanganui Garrison Band) 39. 3; R. Allan (Timarn Municipal Band) 38, 3. Also competed: C. H. Frew (Ashburton Silver Band) 37; W. Wallace (St Hilda Municipal Band) 32; W. Lock (Nelson Garrison Band) 30. Side drum solo (eight test). —J. Briggs (Woolston j Band) 30. i Speaking of both drum tests, the i judge said that the competitors had been set difficult tasks in the sight reading compositions which went bristling with tricky and broken times. It did not necessarily follow that the best drummer was the best sight reader.

The judge demonstrated at the piano the correct playing of the compositions and offered some useful hints ou time signatures and also went into some of the more common difficult!-* confronting drummers.
