Mrs Osbourne left for Feilding this morning, on a visit to her daughter. Mrs L. Walker. UrL. Stevens, A.0.5.M., B.Sc, who has been appointed Director of th ■ Reefton School of Mines, arrived in Reefton from Waiuta to-day. Dr Telford, of the Health Department, Christchurch, was a visitor to Reefton yesterday. Mrs G. A. Gibbelini, who was taken to Reefton Hospital on Thursday, under went a severe operation yesterday, which, we understand was most successful. Mr W. P. Pollock, of the Forestry Department, Nelson, arrived in Reefton yesterday, and with Mrs Pollock, went on to Nelson to-day. Mr Pollock has been acting as Relieving officer at Westport. A London cable states that those well informed, wlio are aware of the association of Marshal Trenchard’s name with the New Zealand vacancy, predict that Trenchard will shortly serve in Australia. News has been received of the death at Newcastle, New South Wales, ot> I November i 5, of Mr Henry Burmeis- I ter, a former wellknown resident of South Westland and later of Reefton, where he married a daughter of Mr C. H. Rhodes. The deceased was 66 years of age. Mrs Colin MacFarlane. of Hokitika, and Miss A. Burmeister, of Wellington, are sisters.
