(from our own correspondent.) Auckland, 25. ; Charles Adams, who was arrested yesterday on a charge of larceny, escaped from the Auckland lock-up early this morning. He climbed up the closet roof and thence on to the roof of the building and dropped in the street. There are four charges against him. It is mooted to get up a testimonial to Sir G. M. O'Rqurke, in recognition of his services in obtaining the University for Auckland. The Governor leaves pei" Hinemoa, at 4 this afternoon. Dunedin, 25. John McNiel, the Mayor of West Harbor, will probably be a candidate ! for Bruce. He contested Dunedin Central at the last election. Mr Horace Basting was requested to stand, but declined. Should the Board accent the offer they will have about the best illuminated harbor in the world. The British Queen commenced loading frozen meat yesterday, for London. Nearly 1000 carcases of sheep, ranging from 591bs to 881bs, were taken aboard. In all 5600 carcasses of sheep and 52 quarters of beef have been frozen ready for shipment. Wellington, 26. Mr Bryce sailed to-day for Wanganui. He will be absent from Wellington about three or four days. Major Atkinson leaves to-morrow overland for Hawera, Patea, and New Plymouth, where he will deliver addresses. Private intelligence received from New Plymouth stated that Mr Morgan Carkeek, of Otaki, surveyor, who has been engaged in the survey of Kawhia, is missing. Search parties were out looking for him but were unable to find any traces of him. His Excellency the Governor has called Messrs J. R. Richmond and J. W. Barnicoat, both of Nelson, to the Legislative Council. The return of Mr Edward Shaw, as j M.H.R. for Inangahua, and the vacation of the Bruce seat by tho doath of Mr James Rutherford, M.H.R, are gazetted.
