GREY VALLEY JOTTINGS.

Being one of those who do not cull their political information from oue news--jjaperxHiiy;' ■■"■ ITi^e^eruieTtßSlsnlulTrns^ of both the Times and Herald since the election excitement. The guiding star of the Herald makes a very poor attempt to shine as the proper light for the electors to steer by. If the leading articles are any criterion of its political principles of a surety they are reflex ideas as electors will find out to their cost if followed out. During the past few weeks the Herald has supplied a good few political tit bits for guileless doctors to swallow, but no logic has been published for intelligent electors to digest. The Timaru Herald was flaunted iv its columns until the cock that they had assiduously started to crow all over the country got baGk to roost in their own office. Although the fact of Mr Shaw when Warden in the Grey Valley attempted to impose on the overtaxed miners was supplied to the Herald, I may add free of charge, they, acting up to the general principles of the paper, would not publish it, as it was unfortunately for the Herald, too true. A reader of the Herald would imagine, not think, that all the virtues of the Inangahua were to be found in its pages. If publishing cock and bull yarns with the intention of damaging a gentlemen who is canvassing the electors like a gentlemen can be by any means called a virtue, then I say, give the medal for virtue to the Inangahua Herald, with the appropriate motto on it " I serve." Electors, you know who. Not to keep electors studying to long to find out who, I will add not the future interests of the Inangahua electorate. Possibly the H erald will term the above Billingsgate. I can honestly assure the Herald that it is not similar to the Billingsgate that adorns its columns. . , . . So much capital has been made out of the.-l»«w«-irever"TunrieT r l:)y* r t]re Herald,' that I would not be surprised to hear that a special reporter was appointed to reside at the mouth of it to supply the very latest news. After perusing the Low Level Tunnel directors report, I consider the subject could be condensed into the following words : — Electors of the Inangahua : We are greatly in want of funds to carry on operations. The Government that Mr Shaw is pledged to support will not give us a shilling of the unexpended goldh'elds vote, and they answer our prayers by telling us, a failing of the present Government that they will " keep our request steadily in view." We have be6n assisted by the prayers of all the political " dead beats " that we were in a position to ear-wig, and still the result is no Government cash coming to hand. The Government keeping our wants "steadily in view " will never be of any assistance to the Low Level Tunnel so the electors will do wise if they return a member who will have the ability not servility, to coinpoll the Government to grant the Inangahua justice. The above is the condensed form of the long story about the Low Level Tunnel. A 8 Mr Shaw is in favour of boring for the second bottom in the Grey Valley, when that bore begins the Low Level Tunnel will have another opponent to participate in the much talk about unexpected goldfields vote. I am &c, A Voice from the Gkey Valley.
