HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

Mr Wakefield in the Grey Valley. Mr E. Wakefield addressed a meeting of the electors of No Town on Wednesday evening last, Mr Clifford M.0.0. being in the chair. There were 99 persons present. The candidate spoke for an hour and a half and was greeted with tremendous applause. At the conclusion a vote of coniidence was proposed by Mr M'Gregor . and seconded by Mr Levingston and carried, 74 hands being held up in support and none against. . On the following evening Mr Wakoficld addressed the electors of Orwell Creek, Mr Craig, farmer, being in the chair. At the close of a brilliant ad T dress the usual vote of confidence was passed by Mr Eobson seconded by Mr Ericson and carried unanimously. Later in the evening the candidate addressed the electors of Ahaura in Murphy's Billiard Eoom. There wore about 80 persons present and on the motion of Mr Nottel seconded by; Mr T. Harrison. Mr J, lieid was voted to, the .chair. At the conclusion of a most effectual address, a vote of confidence was moved by Mr Day and seconded by Mr J. Wright and carried unanimously. Mr Wakefield proceeded to Granville on the following evening where he addressed a crowded meeting. Mr S. M. Mackley presiding. Upon finishing his address Mr Wakefield answered a number of questions put by Mr M. Willing, the latter gentlemen admitting publicly that the replies were, thoroughly satisfactory. Mr J." Marshall then rose, and in a very neat address then ' moved a vote of confidence. He said tin? people of the Inangahua had now, by returning Mr Wakefield to Parliament, a grand opportunity of repairing the errors of the past, for he felt certain that Mr Wakefield would be able to do more good for the district in the year than any other would in a life-time. The motion was seconded by Mr. Baybut, and carried without a single dissentient voice. The chairman (Mr S. M. Mackley), at this stage, said that he wished to make a personal explanation. Mr Shaw had stated at Granville that he (Mr. Mackloy) had signed Mr. Wakefield's motion under false representations, and had told him (Mr Shaw) so. Now, this statement was a deliberate untruth. He (Mr \ Mackley) had only exchanged two or ; three words with Mr Shaw, and never i gsve him the slightest room for such 1 an assertion. This announcement was ■ received with great applause. The \ meeting then adjourned.

At a later hour in the evening Mr. Wakefiekl met the electors of Totara Flat, Mr. James Marshall being in the chair. There were fully 80 persons present, and at the conclusion of the speech Mr. Mickley moved a vote of confidence. He said Mr. Walcefield's return would bring about a new era of prosperity for the Inangahua and Grey Valley, and direct such attention to this part of the Colony as would compel this or any future Government to devote the same attention to it as they do to the districts in Canterbury and Otago. The motion was seconded by Mr E. M'Neil, sen., aud on being put to the meeting was carried unanimously, GO hands being held up. Mr Wakefield's campaign through the Grey Valley was singularly successful, and, having gone carefully through the list of votes at each polling centre, his committees are confident of substantial majorities at six of the eight polling places in that portion of the electorate.
