Two hands are cross-cutting the -surface reef near the south iilling-in flhaft Good prospects have at different times been obtained from this atone, but as there was a considerable percentage of loose gold, the large quantity of water always running through the passes in the lower workings cai*ried away a good deal of the metal; now, however, should it be sufficiently payable to take out, the stone can be taken to the battery intact by way of the shoot, and tram lately constructed from No. 4 level. At a half-yearly meeting on Monday, the retiring directory (Messrs Saxton, Fennel, Cacace, Butler, and Fedderscn) was re-elected. Messrs Campbell and M'Coy were re-appointed auditors.

Great activity is being displayed in connection with the opening of this mine, and no effort will bo spared to have everything in readiness to commence crushing early in July. The half-yearly meeting of shareholders was held on Tuesday last, when Messrs Waters, Conradson, and Clark (Lyell), Butler (Reefton), and W. Watson (Dunedin), were elected directors for the ensuing term. Auditors — Messrs Campbell and M'Coy (ie-ap pointed. )
