DOROTHY LAMOUR
Dorothy Lamour, the American film star, broadcasting in the British Broadcasting Corporation’s “In Town Tonight” programme on her recent visit to London. Miss Lamour, who has starred 1 in so many films with Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, came to England to sing at the big Variety Theatre, the London Palladium where she was a riotous success. (She is not always as popular as this, as she revealed in her broadcast.) Shortly before she sailed for England a man in a Hollywood restaurant came up to her, asked for her autograph, but her pleasure turned to dismay when the man said that he had considered the picture very poor indeed, and he wanted his money back. Miss Lamour, a tractable and kind-hearted woman, opened her bag and handed one dollar, sixty-five cents to the hardy filmgoer, who calmly took it, walked over to the bar and bought himself a glass of beer.
