LINKS WITH COROMANDEL
.Several ex-Coromandel residents are connected With the Thames Trotting Club, writes an Auckland correspondent to the Gazette. The secretary of the club, Mb? Reg. Rhodes, is a son of the late Mr Rhodes J.P., and at. one time proprietor of the Coromandel newspaper. Besides being mayor of Thames for many years he was the Parliamentary representative for the Thames electorate for 17 years, retiring in favour of Mr Samuels. Mr Reg. Rhodes started in the printing business in Thames. Mr E. J. McLoughlin was at one time a member of the Coromandei County Council and was an old Coromandel footballer. Mr W. Brentnail, another member of the trotting club, was the secretary and originator of the Coromandei Agricultural and Horticultural Society and its first show. He also took a prominent part in the organising of the Coromandel Boating Club’s picnics and regattas and was a member of the Coromandel Rugby Union and the Star Football Clu K
