A MOBILE UNIT

ICE CREAM & MILK BAR ONE FOR WHITIANGA COUNTY COUNCIL DECISION An application to operate-a trailer fitted as a mobile ice cream, milk bar, pie, and coffee unit was received by the Coromandel County Council at its meeting last week. The application was from Mr L. A. Clapke, of Whitianga, and enclosed a list of sites on which he would like to make his stands. After discussion it was resolved on the motion of Cp J. H. Reddy, seconded by Cr F. H. Purdom, that the application be granted, subject to the applicant giving satisfactory service and that for a start four of the sites listed by him be agreed on between himself and Crs. W. J. Hare and S. H. Le Roy-Dyson in conjunction with the foreman and traffic inspector.

Various points were brought up during the discussion. It was conceded by all that the unit would fill a long felt want in Whitianga and Cr Hare spoke highly of the proposed unit. The matter of congestion of traffic at some of the sites was another point raised, hence the inclusion of the traffic inspector before any particular site was agreed to. To avoid the granting of a monopoly of sites to any one person it was decided to grant permission in respect of four sites only. If no one else wanted any and applicant ran a good service, further consideration would be given to the matter. The rental would be £5O for 12 months, subject to review at the end of that time.
