STORM DAMAGE
GRANT OF ONLY HALF COUNCIL TO FIND SHARE PROBLEM FOR COROMANDEL A proposal to meet storm damage in the Coromandel county that the Government make a grant of £4991 on a £3 for £1 basis was being placed, with the recommendation of the Ministry of Works, before Cabinet, stated Mr A. S., Sutherland, M.P., in a letter to the October meeting of the Coromandel County Council. The matter would be discussed with the Minister when the county chairman and clerk were in Wellington. It appeared that the Council had to find its share. If there was not a free grant the money would have to be financed by way of loan as the council’s share could not be provided out of revenue money.
