BIRCHALL SHIELD WAIHI CLUB DEFEATED R. McKENZIE’S GOOD SCORING On Saturday last members of the Paeroa Golf Club played a bisc bogey and in keeping with recent performances good cards were received. The senior section was won by W. Tubman with one up, while R. McKenzie won the intermediate section with an excellent score of four up. The junior section was won by M. J. H. Young with a score of all square.

The annual contest for the Birchall shield played between the Waihi and the Paeroa clubs was fought out on Sunday and resulted in a win for the Paeroa club by five matches to one with one match all square. In spite of the margin of victory by the local club, however, most of the matches were closely contested and with luck attending the Waihi competitors the result could have been a much closer one.

A stableford bogey was played in conjunction with the Birchall shield games, not only by the match players but by all members of the Paeroa club, the winner being E. R. Ward, who turned in an excellent card of 77 strokes accumulating 41 stableford points. Three cards of 39 points were handed in by N. D. Maitland, J. P. Sinnett and P. G. Ewen, the first name winning second prize bn the count back.

Two events were played on Labour Day, a 10-hole medal match in the morning, which was won by Ross Harris with the good figures of 42-7-35, while second place was filled by L. J. .Shaw with 40-3-36. A four ball best ball bogey handicap was played in the afternoon and the leading cards were returned by the pairs, McKenzie and Jennings, and H. Morgan and G. McNeil, both teams returning the score of five. up. The first named pair won on the count back. The final of the junior championship was played during the week-end, the winner proving to be M. J. H. Young, who defeated W. J. Barrett four and three.

Members will play a medal handicap next Saturday choosing their own fours.
