TO HELP RUGBY
PLAINS UNION PLANS HOW CAN IT BE DONE? 1 CLUBS TO BE CONSULTED Proposals as to how the Hau j iraki Plains Rugby Union could lassist football and its affiliated clubs in particular, were discussed at the last meeting of the management committee of the union. The suggestion was made that a grant be made to each affiliated club, some members favouring the making of a contribution for the benefit of football, after the subject had been carefully considered. Mr T. Jordan thought that it would not be wise to make a grant at the present time and he would like to know in advance just exactly how the money would be spent. Mr Jordan
said that he was in favour of doing something to promote and assist football. It was a question of making a wise decision as to how it could be done. Mr L. E. Smith pointed out that football grounds would probably become domain assets under war memorial proposals and there was the possibility of obtaining a subsidy. The clubs should be asked to express their views, said Mr C. K. Fox, and delegates should be able to ascertain what ideas the clubs had on the question. The proposal was certainly along the right lines but he thought it would be best to wait and use the money for some specific purpose. Clubs should stand on their own feet, said M/r H. Kennedy, though the union could help by making provision for a training shed. A motion that a grant of £2O be made to' each club was not carried, the meeting deciding to let the matter stand in abeyance in the meantime.
