TROPHIES PRESENTED

PAEROA RUGBY UNION DANCE FOR AUCKLANDERS The Paeroa Rugby Union’s dance which was held recently, with the visiting Auckland B senior representative football team as guests, was attended by a large crowd and proved a great success; Mr W. F. F. Faber, chairman of the Paeroa Rugby Union, welcomed the guests of honour, and also junior teams from Henderson and Manukau, and then called on the mayor of Paeroa, Mr Edwin Edwards, president of the union. Mr Edwards commended all teams for the high standard of football which had been seen on the domain throughout the season, and assured members that the Paeroa Borough Council was willing to assist them in any way possible to further the interests of Rugby in the district. He then congratulated the winning teams of the various competitions before calling f on their representatives to receive the trophies. Mr R. Finlay of the Netherton senior team came forward to receive the three cups won by his club, which were the senior and junior competitions and the junior knock-out competition. The United Football Club were the winnerk of the senior knock-out competition, having defeated West, who were last season’s holders, and their captain, Mr Peter Gregson, received the cup on behalf of his team. Keith Parker was then called to receive the third grade competition cup on behalf of the Paeroa High School Old Boys’ team. T|ie fourth grade competition was won by Paeroa High School and this cup was presented to Earl Jamieson. Mr Corrigan, on behalf of the Paeroa Referees’ Association, then presented the. efficiency cup, which was awarded this season to the Paeroa High School Old Boys’ team, and was accepted by Keith Parker. After the presentations, the dancing continued to the popular music of the Rhythm Quartette. A feature of the evening was two solos sung by the Auckland halfback, T. Kipa, which were greatly appreciated by the dancers. This member of the Auckland team also won. the spot waltz, with Mis® K. 'Rothwell as his partner. The Monte Carlo was won by Mr and Mfrs T. Richardson.
