FLOWERS IN PAEROA A HIGHER STANDARD HORTICULTURAL SOC.’S SHOW Record entries and a higher standard of flowers characterised the fifth spring flower show of the Paeroa Horticultural Society held on Monday last in the Civic hall. The improved display, particularly in daffodils, attracted much attention and congratulatory comments were made by judges and patrons. The president of the society, Mr R. W. Clark, extended a welcome to all exhibitors as well as all others attending. The standard was very high indeed, said Mr Clark, and the judges were particularly impressed with the genera) improvements of exhibits.

Thanks were expressed to Mr and Mrs H. P. Wylde for their yery good work, as well as all .others who had rendered assistance. Mir Clark then called upon Mr Edwin Edwards, mayor of Paeroa, to open the show.

The mayor expressed his pleasure at being Invited again to open such an exhibition of beautiful blooms.. Congratulations were extended to the winners. Mr Edwards said that the show was doing much for the community and its good results were reflected in the gardens around the district. It had. stimulated, increased interest which could certainly be attributed to 'the influence of the work of the society. ■

In concluding JMir 'Etdwardfe congratulated the committee and officials of the society for the excellent manner in which they had organised the proceedings. The judges were as follows:— Mr G. Yarrall of Morrinsvijle (daffodils); Mr and Mrs G. Fairbrother of Hamilton (decorative and children’s classes); Mr K. Adams of Thame? (cut flowers); Mr A. G. Scott of Morrinsville (fruit and vegetables) and Mrs S. L. Haslett of Paeroa (home industries). The Prize Winnett’S • Trophies were won by exhibitors as follows: — Championship class: 12 narcissi blooms (Farmers’ Trading Company Ltd.’s cup), Mr J. W. Danby. Champion of champions, narcissi (Paeroa Horticultural .Society’s cup), M?r J. W. Danby. Amateur championship narcissi (•Gordon vase), Mr J. W. Danby. The championship narcissi small cup and championship large cup were also won -by Mr J. W. Danby. Champion trumpet, narcissi, Mr Dfetines (Royalist). Points Prizes Novice narcissi: Mrs G.
