ROAD REOPENED
OUTLET TO THE BEACH
SAVING TO WHITIANGA SCHOOL
There was a small ceremony on Wednesday, July 19, when the road which runs through Mrs Eyre’s property from the Whitianga School lane to Buffalo beach road was reopened. This road has not been in use for some years but following representations made to the Coromandel County Council by members of the women’s institute, school committee, and Whiti-
anga Chamber of Commerce, the county council arranged for a culvert to be put in and for the bulldozer to level the road for use by vehicular traffic.’
The teachers, Mr Wotherspoon and Mesdames L. V. Smith and Wothersp<x>n, the school children, and a few members of the public, were present at the reopening. Mr Lugg cut the ribbon and the school bus, which will regularly use the road, was the first vehicle to cross.
This outlet to the beach will be greatly appreciated by the school teachers and children, and by all who live near. It will save the school several miles a week, at the same time eliminating two dangerous corners between Albert street and the
