CONDITION OF ROADS KARANGAHAKE AREA COMPLAINT BY COUNCILLOR “The roads in Karangahake, all the roads there are in a terrible condition,” stated Cr J. Rackham at the July meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council. A man could be secured at Karangahake and a good job could be done if the council would only employ him, continued Cr Rackham. >
A man employed at Karangahake would be well employed and much benefit would result, said Mr L. E. Shaw, the county engineer. It would be Z advisable to put a man on for a month or two. Assets would deteriorate if they were not protected, added Mr Shaw.
The meeting resolved to authorise the engineer to engage the man in question for a month when the position could be then reviewed.
People were very disatisfied. They came to his house with their complains, said Cr Rackham 1 . “I do not See how they have tsuch a cause for complaint,” said the chairman, Mr T. A. Barnett, who pointed out that' the, total rates from Karangahake Were only £220 a yearandthey paid the ‘lowest rates in the county. It was useless putting a man on for a month, declared Cr ’Rackham. A resolution was carried that'a man be put on for a month and the position' be reviewed at the end of the month.
Thorp’s Road The need for work to be done on his road was stressed by Cr A. F. Thorp who pointed out that Thorp brothers spent considerable money on the road and also paid heavy rates. He would like a man put on his road for three or four days. The request was. granted. *
