OLD THAMES BOYS

FIRST REUNION HELD GATHERING IN AUCKLAND The first reunion of the Old Thames Boys’ Association was held! recently in the Druids’ hall, Auckland, when there was a large attendance and a first class programme was presented. Items on a varied programme were sorigs, recitations, conjuring, instrument playing besides many toasts. Those taking part were Messrs Jim Calvert, Hector Saxon, Dixon (officer of the Rangatata), Norman Tate, L. Beckington, Hector Allen, M. Duncan, Jack Harrison and England. All the items ‘contributed met with hearty applause and encores, which were accepted by the many contributors. The proceedings opened with the singing of the national anthem, Mr W. G. Aitken, the president, occupying the chair, assisted by the immediate past president, Mr S. Skeen, and Mr Allen, vice-president. The toast of the old Coromandel boys was entrusted to Mr Skeen who stressed the very good feelings and happy relations existing between the two old mining towns of Coromandel and Thames in their past history. He was sure of the continuance of those good and hospitable feelings in the years to come. Mr W. Brentnail replied on behalf of the old Coromandel boys referring to happenings associated with both towns in the early days.’ Sets of tables were laid out with a full supply of all kinds of eatables, with a glass of happiness continually kept full by the executive members of the associatiofi. The gathering was enjoyed to the full and much appreciated by all those present.
