WOODLANDS ROAD

SETTLERS PETITION ACCESS TO KATIKATI COUNCIL MAKES DECISION The matter of the petition of eight settlers on Woodlands road requesting the construction of that road as a through road to Katikati came before the April meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council when a letter was read from the senior engineer, Paeroa, Mr V. C. Bosselman.

The senior engineer stated that a similar petition had been received about a year ago and the petitioners had then been informed by the Hon. Minister of Works that the matter

was one for joint action by the Ohinemuri and Tauranga county councils. If both bodies were prepared to formulate a scheme and proceed with the work then proposals should be submitted to the Ministry of Works in the usual way.

The letter concluded by pointing-out that neither council appeared to be interested! in the work and there was nothing the department could do in the matter.

Mr A. R. Jenkinson, county clerk, pointed out that the area was transferred to the Ohinemuri County Council from the Tauranga county because the settlers in question had a community interest with Waihi and not Katikati.

Councillors were of opinion that the expense of a through road at the present time was not warranted.

The meeting decided that a copy of the letter be sent to the settlers together with a copy of the letter forwarded by the county council to the Ministry of Works.
