PRICE OF BREAD
DELIVERIES MAY CEASE “GENEROUS CO-OPERATION” At present deliveries of bread by bakers were proving uneconomic and unless the baking industry was granted an increase in price of bread it would be forced to take it’s bread van off the road, wrote a baking firm at Waihi to the April meeting of the Thames Hospital Board. The letter went on to state that the firm, for that reason, had not tendered for the supply of bread to the hospital. A decision was expected shortly as to the price ofjbread but even in the event of the firm’s van being taken off the road delivery would be continued to the hospital until alternative arrangements could be made. “That is generous co-operation,” said Mr J. W. Danby, chairman of the board, which decided that the letter be received.
