WAR MEMORIAL
APPEAL FOR FUNDS POWER BOARD’S ACTION SUBJECT OF SPECIAL REPORT An appeal to the Thames Valley Electric-Power Board at its May meeting for a donation to the funds for the erection of the Paeroa and district war memorial was made in a letter from the appeal committee which was placed before the members of the board. Mr Edwin Edwards moved that the matter be referred to the executive to bring down a report to be placed before the next meeting of the board. Mr Edwards pointed out that every local body had special power conferred upon it to make grants from its funds for the purposes of establishing war memorials. The power board was a trading concern and other trading concerns in the board’s area would be contributing. There were other memorials being established and he suggested that the board should consider the setting aside of a lump sum which could be allocated between the various memorials within the board’s area approved by the Government. The chairman, Mr J. F. Mayn, thought that the merits of the proposed contribution should not be discussed as the motion was merely a request that the executive committee bring down a report to the full board meeting.
Mr Edwards’ motion upon being put to the meeting was carried unanimously.
