PAEROA FIRE FIGHTERS

BRIGADE’S APPRECIATION

Appreciation o£ the very excellent and effective assistance rendered by citizens of Paeroa to the Paeroa Volunteer Fire Brigade on the occasion of the recent fire at Mr C. Gleadow’s mill in Paeroa was mentioned in a letter to the February meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council by the brigade’s secretary, Mr. E. Pett.

It was pointed out that the fire was a very serious one and that without the assistance of citizens the job of 'bringing the blaze under control would have been well nigh impossible. Special (mention was ntade of the kindness of Mrs. J. McKenzie who supplied tea to members of the brigade and others helping. The letter also expressed appreciation of the assistance rendered by Mr. R. Nield, borough foreman. The mayor, Mr. Edwin Edwards, stated that the foreman had of his own volition attended all fires and had rendered »most valuable services. Considerable work was entailed in regulating the maximum water pressure at the seat of the fire. Mr. Nield had also arranged all the necessary transport for council employees and other helpers who had gone to assist in fire fighting at Karangahake and Awaiti.

It was pleasing, said the mayor, to receive from the brigade recognition ef the services rendered so willingly by Mr. Nield. He wished to express the council’s appreciation of its foreman’s services.
