MONTH REMARKABLE LOW WIND VELOCITY REPORT FOR JULY This month has been remarkable for very low' wind velocities—two slight breezes of from four to seven miles per hour —three gentle breezes of from eight to twelve miles per hour and five fresh breezes of from 19 to 24 miles per hour, stated the report from the Works Department, Paeroa, covering the month of July, 1949.

There were 23 rainy days during the month of July and the total rainfall was 4.13 inches as against an average of 6.22 inches taken over the past 36 years. The total rainfall this year up to the end of July amounted td 28.43 inches, which is less than the average of 31.77 taken over the past 36 years./

The heaviest falls of rain were on July 3 and July 22 when on each of those days .45 inches of rain fell. Six frosts were recorded during the month, the heaviest being on July 16 and 17 when five degrees of frost were recorded. The maximum temperature was recorded on July 27 when 66 degrees were registered. Barometric pressure showed little fluctuation during the month, the lowest recording being 29.36 on July 4 and the highest 30.35 on July 20.
