PROSECUTION FOLLOWS DROVE HEAVY MOTOR VEHICLE Ross Winter Presley of Hikutaia, garage proprietor, was charged at the August sitting of the Magistrate’s Court, Paeroa, that he did on May 24, 1949, operate a heavy motor vehicle without first having obtained a heavy traffic license. Defendant was charged also with a similar offence on June 1, 1949. Mr W. H. Freeman, S.M., presided. The prosecution was conducted by Mr D. T. Somerville, traffic inspector.

In giving evidence the traffic inspector stated that since the commission of the offences defendant had taken out the necessary license. ' Defendant was convicted and fined £1 on the first offence with costs 12s, and on the second offence was fined £1 10s with 10s costs. Charged with operating a heavy motor vehicle without first having obtained a heavy traffic license, John Cave Hayes, of Paeroa, farmer, pleaded guilty and was ordered to pay costs 12s. No fine was imposed.
