WINTER CARTING
TO BE RESTRICTED
CARRIERS TO CO-OPERATE
“ Are you going to curtail our local operators and allow outside ones to come in and cart when and how much they like? ” asked Cr. J. H. Reddy at the May meeting of the Coromandel County Council. This question arose out of a discussion regarding extraordinary traffic within the county during the winter months. It had been reported to the meeting that all the operators on the Coromandel side of the Peninsula had expressed their willingness to restrict or limit loads during the winter months and to curtail carting in wet weatker. A meeting of operators on the Whitianga side was to be held for the purpose of securing their co-operation. Cr. Reddy pointed out carriers from outside the county were bringing heavy loads into the area not only in wet weather but on Sundays. He thought that it was not fair to ask the local carriers to curtail carting under the circumstances.
The meeting decided that heavy
traffic should not be permitted on Sundays and that the names of offending operators be handed to the traffic inspector.
