PAEROA BOYS DO WELL TOURNAMENT AT HAMILTON On Saturday, April 9, the following athletic teams represented the boys of the Paeroa District High School at the Waikato Secondary Schools Sports Association’s annual athletic tournament at Hamilton: — Secondary department: C. Foster, K. Parker and I. Gillespie.

Primary department: M. Rangi, G. Pett, I. Fraser and D. Wild.

Nineteen secondary schools competed, Paeroa doing very well against much bigger schools by gaining second place to Huntly District High School in the junior championship events. Placings secured by members of the Paeroa team were: 160 yards primary schools championship, M. Rangi, 2; 100 yards junior championship, C. Foster, 1; 220 yards junior championship, C. Foster, 2; junior high jump, C. Foster, 2. In this last event Foster broke the Waikato secondary schools record by three inches, only to be beaten by T. Mason (Huntly) an inch higher.

The school relay team was placed third in its heat, but just failed to be placed in the final. I. Gillespie also secured second place in his heat for the 220 yards intermediate championship but was just beaten in a close finish in the final.

Ex-pupils of the Paeroa District High School, now attending the Thames High School, who did very well were A. Stevenson, S. Nield and P. Walmsley.
