SUCCESSFUL PICNIC

MANGATARATA SCHOOL RESULTS OF ATHLETIC EVENTS Mangatarata children had a grand day for their school picnic with blue skies and sunshine, and the big crowd of residents, coupled with a very efficient committee, made the day a very happy one for everyone. Miss Bayley, the schoolmistress, worked very hard, as did also mothers and lady friends, and in addition to a very nice lunch, ice creams and soft drinks were free to all. The athletic events resulted as follows:— 100 yards, boys and girls, 11 years: Bruce McQuoid 1, Colleen Armstrong 2, Will Skinner 3. 75 yards, boys 9 and 10 years: Brian Clark 1, Don Armstrong 2, Trevor Mora 3. 50 yards girls 7 and 8 years: Judith Mayn 1, Pauline Rawini 2, Maxine Harwood 3. 50 yards, boys 7 and 8 years: Murray Clark 1, John Evans 2, Neil Mora 3. Primer boys: Nick Thomson 1, Bob Mayn 2, Dick Rawini 3. Toddlers: Bay Mora 1, Noel Evans 2, Trevor Johns 3. Novelty events, caterpillar, senior: Ron Evans 1, Bruce McQuoid 2, Rodger Warrington 3. An adult tug-of-war for the men was very keenly fought out and caused a lot of fun, as did also the boys’ tug-of-war, the latter teams being very evenly matched.
