MEDICAL AWARD
BOY FROM NETHERTON JUNIOR HIGH JUMP CHAMPION Graham Jeffries of Netherton has gained the only senior scholarship in medicine to be awarded in New Zealand this year. He is at present studying at the Otago University in Dunedin and will sit his Bachelor of Medical Science examination this year. A son of Mr and Mrs H. Jeffries of Netherton, Graham received his secondary education at the Ngatea District High School where he passed his University entrance examination in December, 1945, with an average of 83.75 marks and was also awarded a medical bursary. At the Auckland University College he passed his medical intermediate in 1946 in which he gained first place and war awarded the “ Casement Aicken Bursary. At the Dunedin Medical School last year he passed his First Professional examination, gaining distinction in both subjects. He was also awarded the “ Jefferson ” prize in anatomy. At 19 years he is not only a brilliant scholar but also an athlete of high standing, having broken the record in the New Zealand junior high jump championship and being the present title holder.
