WIN FOR COROMANDEL WHENUAKITE LOSE 7 TO 9 A party of 13 members representing the Coromandel Table Tennis Club visited Whenuakite recently to play a series of return matches with the local club. The competition was very keen and many close contests took place. The home players held the advantage in the singles, winning seven to Coromandel’s six. Although the visitors succeeded in winning all three double matches, the last of these provided a very exciting finish. A win to Whenuakite would have made each side even but a narrow victory to Coromandel brought its tally of wins to nine compared with its opponent’s seven. Lack of time prevented the playing of further matches which might quite easily have resulted in the Whenuakite team proving victorious. During an interval a most welcome supper was handed round and enjoyed by all. The president of the Whenuakite Table Tennis Club, Mr B. JHamilton, welcomed the visiting players, the Coromandel club’s president, Mr R. A. McNeil, replying. An exchange of visits next season is eagerly looked forward to by members of both clubs.

Following are results of matches played (Whenuakite names mentioned first): — Ladies* singles: Miss N. Bidois lost to Mrs Dear, Miss A. Hamilton lost to Miss J. Inglis, Miss D. Murray defeated Miss H. Inglis, Miss B. Hamilton lost to K. Notman (substitute). Men’s singles: W. Hare lost to N. Mclntosh, G. Donovan lost to H. Dear, R. Holt lost to K. McNeil, K. Camp defeated L. Bethel, R. Wigmore defeated R. McNeil, E. Wigmore defeated K. Leggin, B. J. Hamilton defeated D. Hardy, J. Minifie defeated M. Gamble, R* Williams defeated O. Christian.

Ladies’ doubles: Miss Bidois and Miss A. Hamilton lost to Mrs Dear and Miss J. Inglis.Men’s doubles: G. Donovan and R. Holt lost to H. Dear and N. Mclntosh, W. Hare and R- Wigmore lost to K. McNeil and L. Bethel.
