CHILDREN’S PARTY

KEREPEHI SUNDAY SCHOOL ENJOYABLE DAY SPENT Methodist and Presbyterian parents, friends and children gathered at the Kerepehi hall recently to attend a party to celebrate the sixth birthday of their Sunday school. Mr and Mrs Collins kindly offered the use of their spacious lawn and the early afternoon was spent in games for the children. Treacle bun races, which probably meant extra washing for mothers, delighted the children and caused much amusement among the spectators. Results were as follows: Senior girls, Raewyn Ratcliffe 1, Jean Kearns 2, Iris Kearns 3; junior girls. Dawn Bradley 1, Katherine Hart 2; boys, Bruce Harvey 1, Trevor Ratcliffe and Alan Harvey equal 2. At three o’clock 29 children were seated at the decorated table in the hall where they did justice to jellies and fruit cordials and cakes. The birthday cake was made for the occasion by Mrs Reddy and decorated by Mrs Gavin to whom the children showed their appreciation with three hearty cheers. In the unavoidable absence of Mrs Handyside, Rev. J. Handyside lighted the six candles and the youngest Sunday school pupil, Noeline Manhire, extinguished them. Mrs Hart was called on to cut the cake. During the celebrations Mrs Kearns asked the children to remember the Rev. J. More who, six years ago, had made it possible for the Sunday school 'to be opened in Kerepehi. Raewyn Ratcliffe presented Mrs Kearns with a pair of-vases as a token of appreciation for her placing her house at the disposal of the Sunday school pupils. Valerie Collins presented Mrs Kearns with a shoulder spray.

Among the guests at the party were members of the Kerepehi United Bibls Class, some of whom were old pupils of the Sunday School. The splendid co-operation of parents and friends in donations and work were the chief feature of the success of the party and all spent an enjoyable afternoon together.
